Dorothy King

April 9, 1926 — April 26, 2015

A Celebration of Life service for Dorothy Mae King, age 89, of Enid, is 1:00 p.m., April 30, 2015 at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Pastor Wade Burleson will officiate. Burial will follow in Enid Cemetery. Dorothy passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015 in Enid. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Dorothy was born April 9, 1926 in Wapanucka, Oklahoma, the only child of Lee Taylor and Opal (Travis) Taylor. Dorothy was nine years old when her mother passed away, and she was raised by her papa and grandmother. She attended Wapanucka school, and instead of the bus, her papa provided a horse for her to ride to school. One day, a young man by the name of Henry Lee King saw her running through the fields and declared, “Someday I’m going to marry her”. On May 17, 1945, he did just that! They celebrated 52 years of marriage before Henry passed away in June of 1997. After they married, they moved to Key West, Florida where he was stationed with the United States Marine Corp. They later moved to Bromide, Ok. to operate a grocery store. They moved to Ardmore in 1947, then to Enid in May, 1960. Dorothy maintained her independence with the help of her home health nurses. She loved each one of them dearly.

Family was very important to Dorothy. She thoroughly enjoyed visits from her friends, children, grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. Although she faced health issues, she had a sweet and loving spirit. She was kind to everyone she met. She is long time member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and a prayer warrior for Pastor Wade. She was deeply appreciative of Wade serving communion to her at the hospital. Her faith was important to her and she remained steadfast in her love to Christ.

Dorothy is survived by two sons, Henry Lee King, Jr., and wife Carolyn, of Enid; Robert Wayne King and wife Karen, of Norman, Okla., three grandchildren, Christopher King and fiancé Karen Lopeman, of Red Rock, Okla.; Sarah Teal and husband Jonathan, of Oklahoma City, Ok; Taylor King and fiancé Christy Jones, of Jacksonville, Florida; four great-grandchildren, Logan and Morgan King, of Ponca City, OKla., twins, Cooper and Avery Teal, of Oklahoma City, three nieces, as well as other family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband Henry Lee King, Sr., one niece and one nephew.

Memorials may be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Heart Division and Emmanuel Christian School with Ladusau-Evans serving as custodian of the funds.
