Funeral services for Dr. LaRoy “Roy” Johnson will be Thursday, September 12, 2013, 2:00 PM at the Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wesley Byrd, Rev. Max Brown and Rev James Pointer officiating. Interment will follow in the Karoma Cemetery at Goltry. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until service time on Thursday.
Roy was born November 20, 1924 in Goltry, OK the son of William and Eva Unruh Johnson and passed away September 7, 2013.He was a graduate of Goltry High School in 1943. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during WWII. Roy was united in marriage to Dorothy Schmidt Sept. 23, 1947 in Enid .God gave them four children, but they all died in infancy Roy felt his call from God and he and Dorothy moved to Fort Worth, TX to attend Bible College. While in college he pastored his first church in Newark, TX. After graduation from Bible College they moved to Plainview TX and started Calvary Baptist Church. After seventeen years there, Roy accepted a position with Arlington Baptist College as a teacher and recruiter. The last church he pastored was Messiah Baptist Church in Wichita, KS where he served fifteen years. Roy enjoyed keeping a pretty yard and prior to his heart surgery, he piloted small aircraft. During his pastoring he was affectionately known as “Mr. Missions”.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy and a sister, Sylvia Ray in Ohio.
