James Cowgill

Funeral services for James William Cowgill "Cowboy," age 90, of Nescatunga, OK, will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at the Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Edmison officiating. Burial will follow in Waukomis Cemetery, with the United States Army providing full military honors. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory.

J.W. was born September 5, 1934 in Drumright, OK to Franklin and Beulah (Strow) Cowgill, and passed away September 18, 2024 at his home in Nescatunga surrounded by family.

After high school J.W. joined the Army, and served in Vietnam, Korea, and was stationed in Alaska, Germany. He was stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina where he retired.

J.W. married the love of his life Patsy Long on August 23, 1988 in Sumter, South Carolina

and they moved to Waukomis where they made their home for 15 years before returning to North Carolina so Patsy could care for her ailing mother. After her mother passed away, Patsy and J.W. returned to Nescatunga where they made their permanent home. He loved to go camping and fishing at the Salt Plains Lake and Ft. Fisher in North Carolina. J.W. and her loved to go dancing, spend time with their friends and family, and their beloved cocker spaniel Tucker.

J.W. is preceded in death by his parents Franklin and Beulah Cowgill; his wife Patsy; and sister Joann Burris.

He is survived by grandson Chris and Cindy McCormick of Broadway, NC; nephew, Tony Cypert; niece, Stormy Rodgers; cousin Susie Baker; great-grandchildren, Oliver McCormick of Broadway, NC, Cameron McCormick and his son, Liam Fore, of Spring Lake NC, Kelsey McCormick and fiancé Brent Lynch of Broadway, NC, Scarlett Lynch, and Ronnie Lynch.

Memorials in J.W. name may be to the American Cancer Society, or the Woodring Wall of Honor with Ladusau-Evans serving as custodian of the funds.
