A celebration of life and remembrance for Mildred Annette Mansfield Hitchcock, age 97 years of Enid, will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 15, 2014 at West Willow Community Church, Enid, Oklahoma. Reverend Bert Hitchcock and Reverend Don Tines will officiate. Burial will follow in Richland Cemetery, Renfro, Oklahoma under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Mildred passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2014 in Enid.
She was born April 8, 1917 in Pond Creek, Oklahoma to James A. Mansfield and Minnie A. (Hedges) Mansfield. She graduated from Enid High School in 1934. She attended Southwest University of Louisiana in Lafayette, Louisiana. She received her master’s degree from Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. At the age of 50 she decided to get her education degree. She was a teacher and counselor for 15 years and retired in 1987. They moved back to Enid in 1987. On July 12, 1936 she married Addison Hitchcock in Enid and he passed away in July 2002. Mildred was a charter member of West Willow Community Church and Washington Ave. Bible Church. She and her husband were the first Oklahoma State Directors of Child Evangelism Fellowship and later of Louisiana. Mildred enjoyed art, especially China painting.
Survivors include her two sons , Albert “Bert” and wife Jane Hitchcock and Addison and wife Mary Ann Hitchcock, two daughters, Annette and husband Laurence Chisholm, Della Margaret and husband Walter Knight, 9 grandchildren, Tricia, Nathan, Susan, Laura, Brandon, Kyle, Victoria, Ryan and Justin, 11 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Mildred was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Ruth Ann Hitchcock, two brothers and two sisters.
Memorials may be made to Child Evangelism Fellowship of Oklahoma with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.
