Funeral services with Fireman’s Rites for Donald L. Hickens, 83, of Enid, will be Sat. May 5, 2012, 10:00 AM at The Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home with Rev. James Lambert officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Donald was born Feb. 3, 1929 in Wessington Springs, SD, the son of Oliver and Luetta Schacherer Hickens and died May 2, 2012 in Enid, OK. He was a United States Air Force veteran serving during the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. He was united in marriage to the former Bonnie Ruth Boatwright on Sept. 2, 1954 in Washington D.C. Donald retired as a Fire Marshall for the United States Air Force after 20 years of honorable service. He then served as a contract fireman at Vance Air Force Base until 1991. His hobbies included gardening to support local food banks and collecting antiques.
Survivors include his wife Bonnie, two sons, David of Houston, TX and Larry of Maryville, TN, one daughter, Susan Beatty of Wichita, KS, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Foundation or Our Daily Bread with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the fund.
