A Celebration of Life for Bonnie Ruth Hickens, age 79, of Enid, are today, 10:00 am, January 20, 2016 at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home, with Reverend Jim Edmison officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Bonnie was born in War, West Virginia, to William Andrew and Helen Virginia (Fowler) Boatwright. She passed away Saturday, January 16, 2016.
She married Donald L. Hickens on September 2, 1954, in Washington, D.C. Bonnie was a military wife of Donald, who was in the United States Air Force. They traveled and lived throughout the United States and England.
Bonnie was an active member of Willow View United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and was involved with United Methodist Women, holding a variety of offices. Bonnie was a talented porcelain artist. She taught porcelain art out of her home and was involved with Enid and Oklahoma State Porcelain Artists Organizations. She was an avid gardener, donating vegetables to local charities. Bonnie enjoyed spending time with the many dogs she owned through the years.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Hickens; her parents, Bill and Helen Boatwright; and a brother, Doug Boatwright.
She is survived by three children, David Hickens of Houston, Texas; Susan Beatty and husband Ned, of Wichita, Kansas; Larry Hickens and wife Ruth of Maryville, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Angela Shackelford and husband Sam of Ruckersville, Virginia; Alan Skrapke and wife Lauren, of Fountain, Colorado; Gillian Hickens, of Chattanooga, Tennessee; three great-grandchildren, and one sister Patricia Tolley and husband Sam, of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Memorials may be made in Bonnie’s name to the Alzheimer’s Foundation with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
