Funeral Service for Helen R. Hibbets will be 2PM Tuesday January 19, 2010 in the Ladusau-Evans Chapel with the Rev. Alan Seibel officiating. Private family burial will be in Enid Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Helen was born August 13, 1933 in the Bronx Borough of New York City, New York to parents Pauline and James Regas.
She attended elementary public school 146 and Bay Ridge High School in Brooklyn. She graduated from Brooklyn College and was also awarded membership in Phi Beta Kappa.
She relocated to New Orleans, La in 1963 and attended Tulane and New Orleans Universities, graduating with a degree of master Plus 30 in education. She married Melvin L Hibbets in 1964 and taught math and science classes in the New Orleans and Metairie, La. School systems. For eight years prior to her retirement, she was a Guidance Counselor to high school students during which time, she attained many State and Community commendations for her ability to help and encourage students to further their education. She retired from the school system in May 1993 to care for her ailing mother. She was preceded in death by her mother and father.
Helen enjoyed traveling and was an avid boater and fisherette winning numerous fishing trophies. After enduring several destructive and costly hurricanes , including Katrina, she and her husband relocated to Enid in September 2005.
She is survived by her husband Melvin and several nieces and nephews.
