John beloved husband, father and grandfather went home to his Father, Our Lord, on August 20th 2011.
John P. Henry was the 4th child of 10, born to Pearl and Paul Henry in Sulphur, OK on Oct. 3rd 1931. John graduated from Enid High School in 1950. His active duty in the United States Navy was from 1950 to 1954 as an Aviation Boatswain’s Mate.
During his life John was able to fulfill his childhood dream of being a cowboy, though this was short-lived, after which he worked in the Northwest on large construction projects including dams, bridges, and missile bases in several different trades before becoming a millwright/welder/heavy mechanic. In 1969 John returned to the Enid area and worked in the oilfield and construction industries during the remainder of his career building, repairing and modifying all manner of trucks, cranes, rigs and equipment.
During this period of time John was also active in the Masons and later with the Shriners. John was the major contributor in the inception and building of the parade locomotive and passenger car for the Akdar Temple. John was a lifetime member of the Ancient Order of Camel Herders, Akdar Temple.
John was also a disabled veteran who contributed over 10,000 hours of service to assisting other disabled veterans through the Enid chapter of Disabled American Veterans, taking veterans back and forth to Oklahoma City for their Doctor appointments.
John married Lorene Davidson from Ringwood, OK on June 3, 1955. John leaves 5 children: Paula Davis of Waukomis, OK, John P Henry II and wife Tamara of Chandler, AZ, Kelly Hakel of Crossville, TN, Tina Rion and husband Jimmy of Smyrna, TN, and Randy Henry of Enid, OK. John also leaves 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
John also had 9 brothers and sisters: David, Harold, Margaret, Joe, Fred, Eugene, Janie Nell, Isaac, and Cynthia. John was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Pearl Henry and two brothers, David and Harold Henry.
Viewing will start on Monday Aug. 22nd at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home in Enid on Thursday August 25th, 2011 from 7-8 PM CST. The Funeral will be held at Community Bible Church, Logan Road, Lahoma, on Friday, August 26th at 10:00 am. Rev Bill Smith will officiate. Memorials may be made the Community Bible Church.
