A celebration of life for Betty Poplin Lafitte Handley will be 4:00p.m., Friday, April 12, 2019 at Ladusau-Evans Chapel with Rev. Jim Edmison officiating. Cremation services are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Betty Poplin Lafitte Handley was born on December 29, 1931 and went to be with her Lord and family on April 5, 2019. She was married to Howard Poplin, and together they had two children Cheryl and Stephen. Later she married Bill Lafitte and had one daughter Kerry. She married Earl Handley on December 29, 2012. She was a dedicated mother and “Mamaw” and was loved by many. Her home was open to all, and she raised many nieces and nephews in addition to her children.
In her heyday, Betty loved to go fishing and camping. She liked to travel and took many trips with her husband Bill, her brother Danny and his wife Barb, and her niece Vyrone and her husband Wayne. She liked to dance and was a member of a square dancing club. She also enjoyed watching her kids and grandkids play sports. Her favorite dogs were dachshunds, and she was the proud owner of many throughout her life.
In later years, she had fun getting dressed up for culinary adventures,
shopping trips, or outings to the casino with her family. Above all, she delighted in laughing, joking, and visiting with family and friends. Seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren always made her face light up. She was playful, funny, witty, kind, and unconditionally loving. She had a cute and mischievous smile, was an excellent yodeler, fixed the best pumpkin pie and noodles, and gave the most amazing hugs. She will be extraordinarily missed, and the world is less bright without her.
She is survived by husband and caretaker Earl Handley; children Cheryl and Joe Wanzer, Stephen and Brenda Poplin, and Kerry Hill; grandchildren Kindra Sloan, Lynsie Hodges, Jennifer Kasper, Shane Poplin, Destiny Poplin, Dakota Poplin, Morgan Hill, and Connor Hill; six great grandchildren; brother Frankie Bush; and sister-in-law and close friend Barbra Bush.
Memorials can be made to Furever Friends or the Enid SPCA with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds. Condolences may be made and services viewed at www.ladusauevans.com
