Joan Haltom

August 19, 1925 — February 27, 2018

A Celebration of Life for Joan Dorrington Haltom, age 92 years, of Enid, is 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Vernon Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation for Joan will be from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, Friday, March 2, at the funeral home. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Joan was born August 19, 1925 in Kent, England to Walter and Nell (Kirkaldie) Dorrington, and passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018 in Enid.

Joan attended Stanford College of Nursing. She met the love of her life, Marvin Haltom in Nottingham, England at an Army Air Corp dance, just before the end of WWII. They were married on April 11, 1945 in Peterborough, England. Joan and Marvin welcomed their first born child, a daughter Phyllis Jean, on July 5, 1947. Together they farmed east of Waynoka and operated their dairy farm until 1956 when they moved to Enid. Joan was a homemaker and Marvin was self-employed. On December 1, 1958 they welcomed their second daughter, Kathy Lynn. Joan loved sewing, needlepoint, crocheting and was also an avid gardener who grew the most beautiful roses and African violets. What Joan enjoyed the most was spending time with her granddaughters and great-grandchildren, and they cherished time spent with her as well.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Nell Dorrington; her husband Marvin L. Haltom; brother, Robert Walter Dorrington; three sisters, Margaret Wight, Phyllis Dorrington, and Barbara Dorrington; step-mother, Blanche Dorrington; step-sister, Shirley McChesney; and nephew, Richard Wight.

Joan is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Johns of Talequah, Ok; Kathy James and husband Tim, of Enid; two granddaughters, Jennifer Davis and husband Aaron, of Springdale, Arkansas; Christina James, of Midwest City, Oklahoma; five great-grandchildren, Kylie, Noah, Alec, Emma, and Asher; two nieces, Margaret Derritt and Marcia Kovacs;and nephew Ian Wight.

Memorials in Joan’s name may be made to the Hydrocephalus Association with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
