May 24, 1932 — May 24, 2015

A Celebration of Life service for Joan Mildred McInturff Hale, 83, of Enid, will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 28, 2015 at the Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jim Edmison will be officiating. Burial will be held at the Garber Cemetery at Garber, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Joan was born to William Adam and Myrtle Alice (Vinyard) McInturff on May 24, 1932 on a farm near Lucien, Noble County, Oklahoma and died on her birthday, May 24, 2015 at her home.

Joan was an only child. She was raised in the Lucien-Covington area and attended West Lawn and Keystone grade schools and Covington High School.

On June 7, 1948, she married Dick L. Hale. They raised their family of four children in the Covington area, later moving to Pampa, Texas when husband Dick was transferred. In the late 1970’s Joan moved to Enid, Oklahoma.

Since she was a little girl, Joan always wanted to be a nurse and she achieved her dream. Joan obtained her GED in 1968. In 1969, she was a member of the first graduating Licensed Practical Nurse class at O. T. Autry, Enid, Oklahoma. Joan was especially proud two of her daughters became nurses as well.

In Oklahoma, Joan worked at Sunset Estates Nursing Home, National Manor Nursing Home, Garber Nursing Home, Enid Memorial Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital. In Texas, she worked at the Worley Hospital and Pampa Regional Hospital. She retired from Enid State School (NORCE).

Joan was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist church as were her mother’s family. While living in Covington, Oklahoma, she was a member of Eastern Star.

Joan enjoyed reading, collecting dolls and having a small garden. She also enjoyed finding a bargain at thrift stores and other places like garage or estate sales. Joan was kind and always generous to her children helping them along as they grew into adults. Her favorite phrase was "I hope I don't faint and fall in it."

Survivors include one son, Dick L. Hale, Jr., of Enid; three daughters: Darla J. Terry and husband Mike of Enid, Tammy S. Kirk and husband Lonnie of Lubbock, Texas, Teresa J. "Joni" Morris of Ore City, Texas and several nephews, nieces and cousins.

Joan has eleven grandchildren: Chandra (Hale) Holly, Jamie (Hale) Davis, Lacie Hale, Dick Hale III, John Hastings, Dustin Meyers, Jarrod Meyers, Kelsey Hart, Kortney Meyers, Cari Morris, Brandon Morris. She has eleven great-grandchildren: Haden, Christopher, Jaycee, Aniston, Kara, Madison, Elizabeth, Wyatt, Justin, Ross and Caroline.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Dick L. Hale.

In lieu of flowers, Joan would hope that you will do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for some poor unfortunate soul in her name.
