A Celebration of Life for Irene (Schweer) Gragert will be 10:30 am, Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church in Fairmont, Oklahoma with Pastor Mark Blakeman officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, June 8, 2018 at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Irene was born on January 21, 1923 in a house a few miles northeast of Covington, Oklahoma to Freddie and Lena Meier Schweer. After living an independent life until her last few days, she passed from this life surrounded by her children on June 3, 2018 in Enid, Oklahoma.
Irene married Merton Gragert on June 1, 1941 in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Covington, Oklahoma. The couple made their home on a farm southeast of Fairmont, Oklahoma. They moved to a house in Fairmont in June, 1951 and raised their family there. They left Fairmont in 1991 and moved to Enid.
She retired from Farmers Coop of Fairmont in 1985 after working there for 23 years. Irene was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Fairmont where she belonged to the Ladies Aid and Friendship Circle Group.
She was preceded in death by her husband Merton on August 4, 2004, sisters, Lorene Whiteneck, Darlene Braley, and brother Herold Schweer.
Surviving Irene are her three children: Sandra (Laird) Bartels of Tobias, Nebraska, Bruce (Lynn) Gragert of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Mark (Cindy) Gragert of Wylie, Texas. Seven grandchildren: Lisa Cogswell, Gary Bartels, James Bartels, Tiffany Wagner, Megan Gragert, Derek Gragert, and Damon Gragert. 14 great-grandchildren: Blake, Ostynn, McKehna, Conner, Coleman, Josie, Brynley, Grace, Tristan, Tanner, Peyton, Chloe, Gaige and Laeken as well as three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Arnold Schweer, a sister, Esther Mittelstet, and brother and sister in law Lavern and Opal Gragert.
Memorial contributions in Irene’s name may be made to Hospice Circle of Love or to the charity of choice with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
