Glen Chester Goodwin, 88, of Enid, Oklahoma passed from this life, on the 20th of June, 2014 after a lengthy battle with Cancer. Glen was convicted in his will to survive and enjoy life and passed with devotion to the Father, with dignity and courage into the hereafter.
Glen was born August 7th, 1925 at home in Waukomis, Oklahoma to Chester and Violet McIntire-Goodwin. Glen’s Parents and his brothers, Dwayne Goodwin and Max Goodwin preceded him in death.
Glen was a member of the 1944 graduation class of Waukomis High School. Shortly thereafter, he volunteered to serve in the US Army where he joined with the 26th “Yankee Division” under the command of General George Patton’s 3rd Army. He proudly entered military service with friends Douglas Mc Daniel and Emerson Harris of Waukomis Oklahoma. He traveled to Scotland via the route to England aboard the Queen Mary which he toured later in life while on vacation in California. Glen earned two Bronze Stars and numerous other medals during his service to his country in WWII while with the YD. Glen participated in the “Battle of the Bulge” as a replacement tank commander when troops were in short supply.
Glen fought with his unit from Le Harve, France to Ceske-Budejovice, Czechoslovakia at the end of declared hostilities in 1945. He then was called by our Country to operate a SS German prison camp in Pierbach, Austria which was later converted to a displaced persons camp and did so until his return on a US Victory ship later in 1945.
Glen attended a farming operations training in Billings Oklahoma run by the US Army after returning from WWII. There his passion for farming would be sparked into his first love.
In 1964, Glen purchased a Chevrolet- Olds dealership in Hennessey, Oklahoma. He operated Goodwin Chevrolet-Olds and built a successful business until its sale in 1971. He loved working with friends and neighbors and providing them with quality transportation. People traveled great distances to trade with him. Glen was active in the automobile business for many years and worked for many successful auto dealers.
Glen and Sharon were married on August 23rd, 1971. Sharon stood by his side as a wife, ranch-hand, financial manager and partner in the family farming operation that they operated. Farming was Glen’s first love and he made it his life. He managed the farming operations until his last days of life.
Glen is survived by his wife, Sharon, their children, Kenneth G. Goodwin and Judy of OKC, Ginger S. Engler and Robert, Roderick W. Goodwin, Kelly J. Goodwin and Cindy, all of Enid. Brother in law, Chuck Grimes and Beverly of Hennessey, Sister in law, Deana Titus and Tim of Stillwater, 6 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and close friends and family whom he loved and all impacted his life and love of it.
The Services for Glen C. Goodwin will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday June 23, 2014, at Ladusau-Evans Chapel with Mr. Jimmy Berkenbile officiating. Burial will follow in the Waukomis Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to OMRF/ Cancer Division with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.
