A Celebration of Life for Bradley Gilbert, 29, will be Friday, June 15, at 2:00 p.m., at Willow View United Methodist church, 3525 W. Purdue, with Rev. Carrell Still officiating. Family visitation will be at the church immediately following the service. A private family burial will in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau Evans Funeral Home. Bradley left this Earthly life and joined Jesus’s Heavenly Band on June 11, 2012.
Bradley was born July 28, 1982, the firstborn of Gil and Lezlie Gilbert. He attended Enid Public Schools, graduating in 2001. He chose to attend Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva. He graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications. He was very proud to go back to his former teachers as show them that, besides academics, they also taught him that through hard work and perseverance you can achieve your dreams. He didn’t know the words, “I can’t,” and if he was doubted he would work even harder to prove them wrong.
There were three passions that drove Bradley throughout his life: music, photography and success. Bradley started playing the trumpet in sixth grade when Jesus revealed to Bradley the joy and power of music. He was in band through junior high, high school and college. During his band career he not only marched in numerous marching contests and parades with The Enid High Big Blue Marching Band, he was invited to tour Europe with the Oklahoma Music Ambassadors and marched with the NWOSU Ranger Band in the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Washington, D.C. The final plume in Bradley’s hat was marching with the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corp. the summer of 2004.
When starting college he wasn’t sure about a major. While there, he joined the Art Society and discovered the camera. He became known around campus for always having a camera around his neck. His true photographic passion was sports photography. Football games, basketball games, baseball games . . . Bradley would be there with his camera in hand. That did not stop after graduation either. When Northwestern played their annual game at David Allen Ballpark in Enid, Bradley would be there capturing the action. After college, he and his parents started Timeless Church Memories. He did portrait photography, taking senior pictures, family photos and created church directories. His landscapes were award winning.
His strong work ethic led him to start working at a young age. He continued to work while attending school and following his artistic passions. Because he knew hard work was the key to success, he strived to instill this same drive in the students he had the privilege to work with as Hennessey High School’s Assistant Band Director where he was employed until his passing.
On September 17, 2007, only months after graduating college, Bradley was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He fought this disease in a way only Bradley could, he never felt sorry for himself, asked “why me” or gave up. He was an inspiration to all of those around him as he took this journey. He appreciated everyone who walked the road with him and gave him support.
Bradley was a devout Christian believing that Jesus Christ was his Lord and Savior. He accepted Christ while attending Community Bible Church in Lahoma. He also attended churches in Alva and Enid where he placed his membership at Willow Road Christian Church (DOC). As a member of the church he had the blessing of working with the youth. First as assistant director, then becoming the youth director. He also filmed and edited the services for Pegasys. He attended a Chrysalis Flight and was active in the Enid Area Emmaus Community.
Bradley is survived by his parents Gil and Lezlie Gilbert, brother Christopher, his little sister Shawna, and fianceé, Frances McDade all of Enid. Maternal grandmother Anna Mae Marler, his aunt and uncle Tim and Denise Graham of Enid; Uncle Don and Dee Newell of North Las Vegas, NV. He is survived by cousins: Milinda Lowe, Palm Springs, CA; Micah and Stephanie Emmerson and sons, Eli and Nathan, Marshfield, MO; Jesse and Ashley Emmerson and daughters Macee and Abigayle, and Danny and Aranda Gulick and children, Desiree’, Amber, Blaine and Connor all of Enid. He is also survived by his best friend, Adam and wife Nicole Steuart of Enid. Surviving him as well are other family members and friends too numerous to mention.
Meeting him at the Gates of Eternity are his maternal grandfather, Loy Marler and paternal grandparents Clarence “Gib” and Esther Gilbert. His Aunt Peggy Marler Newell, and numerous great aunts and great uncles.
Bradley believed that clothes did not “make the man” and always looked into other’s hearts for the truth. In keeping with this, we are asking that casual attire be worn to the service.
In lieu of flowers, Bradley requested memorial donations be made to Willow Road Christian Church (DOC) with Ladusau Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians
