Graveside service for Elmer Oney “Maurice” Farr, MSGT Ret USAF age 90 of Enid will be 1:00 pm Tuesday at the Hardtner Cemetery, Hardtner, KS with Rev. Gail Edmison officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Elmer O. “Maurice” Farr, MSGT Ret USAF, passed away on April 8th in Enid, Oklahoma. Elmer Oney Farr was born on July 2, 1931 in Lorain, Ohio to Lorene Davidson and Elmer Maurice Farr.

As a small child Elmer lived with his grandmother Lena Davidson in Harriman, Tennessee. He later lived with his mother in Mount Airy, North Carolina. Elmer attended school in Mt. Airy until at the age of 16. While still 16 he talked a recruiter into enlisting him into the Air Force in November of 1947. While in the Air Force he furthered his education and graduated with the class of 1949 in Mt. Airy. He went on to earn an Associate of Arts from Altus Junior College, while stationed at the Altus Air Force Base.

Elmer was assigned to the Randolph AFB and then was transferred to the Enid AFB in September of 1948. He was transferred to various stateside bases after serving three years in the Korean War. He then returned to Vance AFB and was there for an additional six years as a radio maintenance technician. He also worked in the wing inspector’s office. While stationed at Vance AFB, Elmer married Darlene Thornberry in Alva, Oklahoma on November 27, 1953. In 1959 he was reassigned as an instructor in the newly established Metrology Calibration School at Lowry AFB.

He was assigned to Special Operations for Psychological Warfare at Clark AFB in 1963. From there he and Darlene served in Okinawa. Elmer retired from the air force on April 1, 1968. In his civilian life Elmer worked held various positions, including retail, newspaper publishing, real estate brokerage, bus driving, and aero systems engineer. Elmer and Darlene had no children of their own, but were very close to Darlene’s nieces, Shirley Christopher, Defonda Hopping, Delana Staats and Lori King. Darlene passed away in July of 2004 after 50 years of marriage.

Elmer married Mary Lou Eden on May 31, 2008. They enjoyed several years of travel before Elmer and Mary Lou moved into The United Methodist Home of Enid. Mary Lou passed away in January of 2017 and Elmer continued to make it his home until his passing. When Elmer married Mary Lou, his friends told him he now had the family he never had. Her children, Linda Feuerborn, Lisa Hartman, Rob Eden and Arly Eden along with their spouses, children and grandchildren became his family.

Elmer had one sister, Betty Marion, Kannesaw, Georgia. He is survived by a niece, Mauricia Allen, and a nephew, John Marion, Darlene nieces and nephew Gary Gerloff, along with Mary Lou’s children.

Elmer belonged to several organizations, including the Garfield Lodge 501, Guthrie Scottish Rite, AKDAR Shrine, Lifetime member of VFW, Freedom American Legion and USAF Sergeants Association.

Memorials may be made to The Freedom American Legion, with the funeral home acting as the custodian.
