The funeral service for Melba P Evans, age 85 of Hennessey, will be held Friday, April 8, 2011 at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Hennessey, OK. Rev Rex Haymaker and Rev Terry Bunch will officiate. Burial will be in the Hennessey Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Melba went home to be with her Lord on April 4, 2011. She was born on June 21, 1925 in St John, KS to George and Jane Sizemore. Melba graduated from St John High School in 1943 and was married in 1948. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hennessey, OK and she really liked going to church.
Melba owned and operated the Hennessey Answering Service for 26 years, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, three hundred sixty-five days a year. Because her business was so confining she always had her door opened to family and friends.
Melba was an awesome cook and her kids often brought home friends for lunch; a safe haven from school food. Her church was blessed with chicken and noodles, cakes, pies and cookies for church functions and funerals, and each family member has their own Melba favorite.
Melba’s grandchildren were her special delight and she invested herself into their lives. Her family was her ministry, which was demonstrated with much love, great sacrifice, without complaint and is her true legacy.
She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings. She is survived by her five children and their spouses; Larry and Donna Evans, Joe and Debbie Evans, Kathy and Steve Minton, Judy and Rex Haymaker, Karla and Matthew Van Gee, as well as eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
We grieve our loss, but not without HOPE.
