Lendl Detwiler

June 1, 1960 — January 28, 2024

A graveside service for Lendl Jay Detwiler, age 63, of Enid, will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, February 1, 2024 at Enid Cemetery, for all who wish to attend. A celebration of his life will be held at the Gaslight Theater at 7:00 pm, Thursday, February 8, 2024. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory.

Lendl was born June 1, 1960 in Nashville, Kansas, to Wendell Glenn and Rena (Thompson) Detwiler, and passed away Sunday, January 29, 2024 after a lengthy battle with renal disease.

Lendl moved to the Enid community in 1972 from Pratt, Kansas. For many years, he worked in the health care field, first as an orderly at St. Mary’s Hospital then at Integris Bass Baptist as a transfer specialist. While working in the health care field, he formed many long-lasting friendships with his nursing friends. Later in his life, he worked as a home health care provider, taking care of elderly patients, and sometimes even their beloved pets. More recently, he worked in the box office of the Gaslight Theater, something he dearly loved. Lendl was part of the very fabric that is Gaslight Theatre. He served as Box Office Manager over two long stretches, including up through this past week. He was a friend, a confidant and the king of public relations. That uncanny P.R. sense was extended to our audience as well as our Gaslight volunteers, both onstage and off. A wonderful mix of kindness, grace and intelligence. He was truly beloved, and he will be missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Wendell and Rena Detwiler, a half-sister, Judy Foster and half-brother, Jerry Ford.

Lendl is survived by his brother, Robert Detwiler, of Sterling, Kansas; two half-brothers, Mike Detwiler, of Pratt, Kansas, and Gale Taler, of Elk City, Oklahoma; as well as many nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends who will all miss him dearly.
