Johnathan Davenport

April 24, 1934 — August 11, 2018

Johnathan “John” Wesley Davenport, Sr. was born on April 24, 1934 to Arthur and Vivian Davenport in Cheshire, Ohio and passed away peacefully on August 11, 2018 in Enid, OK.

At his request his body was donated to the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and no service will be held at this time.

In August of 1952 John joined the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in December of 1972 after serving his county for over 20 years. During his time of service John was stationed around the world receiving numerous medals including a Korean Service Medal w/2 Bronze Stars, a United Nations Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal w/3 Bronze Stars, and 2 Overseas Service Bars. On July 19, 1967 he was also awarded a Purple Heart.

John married Theresa Fuksa on October 1, 1982. John and Theresa enjoyed their retirement years traveling around the United States in their camper trailer.

John continued his heart of service, in the Enid area, by delivering meals for the Wheatheart Nutrition Project where he was honored as the 2013 Volunteer of the Year.

John is survived by his children (from a prior marriage) JD Davenport, Dr. Michael Davenport, Dennis Davenport, Johnny Davenport, Kathy Semmel and Steven Davenport. Brother Anthony Davenport, and sisters Marcella Trot and Shirley Gatt. Three step children and numerous grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his wife Theresa, his parents, brothers Hugh and Lloyd Davenport, sisters Hazel Hoyer and Lois Doughty, and daughter Nancy Seely.

The family would like to thank Dr. Dennis McIntrye and staff, Garland Road Nursing Center and Ross Health Care for their compassionate and comforting care these past two years.
