Darla Marie Misak was born in Enid, Oklahoma on December 22, 1945, to Dale and Evelyn (Quigley) Dahlem. She passed away peacefully at home on December 29, 2024.
Darla was raised and lived most of her life in Medford, Oklahoma where she attended and graduated from Medford High School. She had a talent for singing and playing the piano. This led her to pursue a degree in music at Northwestern Oklahoma University. She completed two semesters before she left to dedicate herself to becoming a wife and mother. She married Dennis Misak of Wakita, Oklahoma on August 14, 1965.
Darla was vivacious and generous in her service to others, but foremost to her family. Several nights a week while raising her family, she had worked all day then traveled to sporting events or performances, missing only one that can be remembered. She made multiple long trips to Arizona to attend as many of her grandchildrens’ birthday celebrations, holidays and special events as she could. In her final months she set a goal to attend her grandsons wedding in California, and attend she did. She approached this goal as she did most everything in her life, with fierce determination and courage.
In her early years, she worked part time in beauty salons completing her certification just after high school, and then when her children were in school she became a measurement clerk for Koch Oil Company. She worked there for many years before retiring. During her life, she was active at the Methodist Church singing in the adult choir and leading the children’s choir for many years. She was an avid gardener, hostess for family gatherings, and active in community service. Darla didn’t know a stranger, talking to anyone she’d meet and building communities where ever she went. She had a heart to care for others, visiting those who were ill in the hospital or nursing homes, or blessing others with meals she had prepared or tending to neighbors who were home bound or otherwise infirm. In her later years, she enjoyed being an elementary substitute teacher, working alongside her husband with his refrigeration business, and enjoyed attending musicals and theater performances, many with her daughter-in-law including a memorable trip to Broadway. She also loved traveling to visit family, friends and destinations of interest “dragging” her husband along on all her adventures. Most of all she was a devoted mother and grandmother of both her grandchildren and granddogs. She will be greatly missed.
Darla is preceded in death by her mother, father and brother-in-law Charles Misak. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Dennis Misak, a son Alen and daughter-in-law Trisha Misak of Oklahoma, daughter Melia and son-in-law Steve Cox of Arizona, grandson Tyler and wife Kali Cox of California, granddaughter Aubrey Cox of Arizona, sister Donna and brother-in-law Glen Beckham of Oklahoma, sister-in-law Sharon Misak of Maryland, nephew Brian Misak, nieces Erin Coudon, Leah Fryer, Evie Strunk, and Kyla Hill as well as honorary daughter, Sylvia Garza of Monterrey, Mexico.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory. An intimate memorial graveside in Rosemound Cemetery will be announced at a future date.
