Funeral services for Velma E. Cummings, age 90 of Enid will be 1 pm Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Rev’s Scot Whittenburg and Kenneth Wade officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Velma was born January 28, 1924 on the family farm at Breckenridge, OK to John and Marria Heitfeld Breitenkamp and passed away Saturday, April 26, 2014 in The Commons Methodist Care Center. She attended grade school in Breckinridge and later graduating from Garber High School in 1942. Velma married Alfred Cummings on September 25, 1943 in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Breckinridge and he passed away November 21, 1986. Velma worked at Kress Dime Store and later as the Accounts Payable Clerk at the Enid Stockyard for 15 years. She worked at JC Penny’s during Christmas time wrapping presents for many years.
Velma was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Breckinridge and later joined St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she was very active in LWML. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and was a founding member of the Texiana Home Extension Club.
Survivors include two daughters Kay Duffield and husband Mike of Tulsa, Jo Williams and husband Ted of Afton, OK, grandchildren Geoff and Angie Duffield, Jennifer Duffield, Travis Williams, Aaron Williams and Ashley Williams, great grandchildren Allison, Geoffrey, Sarah, and Mackenna, great-great grandson Kaleb Smith, sister Helen Fischer and many nieces, nephews and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Reva Cummings, three brothers, and a sister.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.
