A Celebration of Life Service for George W. Cowan age 81 of Enid will be 2:00 pm Tuesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Scott Whittenburg and Rev. Kenneth Wade officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
George was born August 12, 1933 in Humbolt, KS to George W. and Doris J. Horton Cowan and passed away peacefully at his home early Friday, March 20, 2015. He grew up and attended school in Humbolt. George enlisted in the Air Force in 1951 and was stationed at Vance and Kessler AFB until his discharged in 1955. He moved back to Enid and worked at Vance as a jet engine mechanic until his retirement in 1997. On July 12, 1953, George married Caroline Schroeder at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. To this union three children were born, Cynthia, Michael, and Susan.
He loved to work in his garden and get together with his buddies for morning coffee. He was an avid reader of western novels and collected belt buckles and antiques. He delivered Meals on Wheels in the Enid area for several years. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where he was Head usher for several years.
He is survived by his wife Caroline of the home, daughters Cynthia Koehn and husband Michael, Susan Ford and husband Mark all of Enid, brother John of Neodesha, Kansas, sisters Marie Miller and Jo Callarman all of Chanute, Kansas, six grandchildren: Joshua Koehn and Fiancée Lisa Kramer, Christy and husband Eric Thompson, Hattie and husband Shane Bland, Sarah and husband Chris Litzau, Carrie Ford, Shannon and wife Eva Melrose, and ten great grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his parents, son Michael, and three sisters Mabel Floyd, Roberta Hamlin and Peggy Johns.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and School with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.
