Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Larry was born January 31, 1950 in Enid, to John and Hazel (Phillips) Coontz, and passed away Friday, July 27, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.
Larry graduated from Kiowa High School graduating in 1969. He attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma graduating in 1973 with a Bachelor’s in Business degree. He married Janet Allen on June 7, 1970 in Cherokee, Oklahoma. They had two children, Scott and Patricia. In 1978, while he and Janet were living in Byron, Oklahoma, he founded Coontz Roofing. The business was relocated to Enid in 1991 so Janet could begin her teaching career at Glenwood Elementary School, where she worked for twenty-one years. He sold the business to his son Scott in 2015, and remained active in the business until his health prevented him from working. Larry was very proud that Coontz Roofing had just celebrated its 40th Anniversary and is successfully thriving as a second generation company with three generations involved in operations. He and Janet were active members of Oakwood Christian Church where he served as Sunday school superintendent, as an elder, and as a trustee. Church and family were the most important things to Larry. He was able to take his grandchildren to Disney World and Branson just this spring. He and Janet loved to travel; he treated her to three cruises, one to Alaska, and to the Western Caribbean twice; however his favorite destination was Estes Park, Colorado.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, John and Hazel Coontz. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Janet Coontz, of the home in Lahoma; two children, Scott Coontz and wife Sheila, of Enid; Patricia Ledford and husband Rusty, of Enid; eight grandchildren, Ryan, Cody, and Brandon Coontz, of Enid; Rylee Schnaithman and husband Travis, of Garber; Kacie Mack, of Edmond; Mackenna Mack, of Stillwater; Ethan and Emma Ledford, of Enid; one great-grandson, Mack Schnaithman, of Garber; three sisters, Glenda Moore, of Enid; Nancy Coontz, of Enid; Carolyn Mathis, of Cherokee; as well as numerous other family and friends.
