Memorial services for Charles Edward Conger, 85, of Enid, will be Thursday, September 26, 2013, 2:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Williams officiating. Cremation services are under the direction of the Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Interment to be held Friday, October 18, 2013, 2:00 pm at the Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO.
Charles was born November 27, 1927, in Palmetto, Georgia, the son of Charley F. and Velma Bentley Conger and died September 23, 2013 in Enid, OK. Charles served his country in the United States Merchant Marines, the United States Air Force, the United States Army Reserve and the Air National Guard. He served during WWII and The Korean Conflict. Charles was united in marriage to Mary Ann Taylor December 11, 1954 in Fort Worth, TX.
Following his honorable discharge from the military, he resumed his career in the United States Civil Service as an engineer. Charles served as an adult leader for the Boy Scouts of America, coached little league baseball, volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was known as all-around handyman. Charles loved his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He loved studying his Bible, watching westerns and listening to big band music.
Survivors include his wife Mary, two daughters, Sharon Flageolle of Centennial, CO, Carolyn Goodall of Englewood, CO, three sons, Ronald of Roseville, MI, Robert of Kechi, KS and Wayne of Littleton, CO, thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Charley and Eric and six siblings.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Salvation Army with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the fund.
