A Celebration of Life and Remembrance for Gary Coats, age 84 years, of Breckinridge, will be 2:00 pm, November 18, 2015 at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Randy Mitchell will officiate. Burial will follow in Paradise Cemetery, Breckinridge, OK. Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. Gary passed away Friday, November 13, 2015 in Enid.
Gary was born May 28, 1931 on the family farm near Breckinridge, OK to Herman Coats and Lena (Shawver) Coats. He attended school at Spring Valley, a small country school, before transferring to Garber. On October 30, 1949 he married Mary Jean Maly in Arizona. They established their home near Breckinridge on the family farm where they raised their three sons. Gary worked at several different jobs including construction, oilfield and farming. In 1970 he started Coats Custom Combining. They would travel all across the United States from Texas to North Dakota cutting wheat, rice, and soy beans. After retirement, he focused on farming, ranching, and raising Limousine cattle. Gary enjoyed attending his sons, and grandchildren’s sporting events, including baseball, football and basketball. He would travel to where ever they were playing. He was a huge fan of OU Sooner sports, attending several bowl games.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Jean, parents Herman Coats and Lena Joslin, and a sister, Berta Shaw.
He is survived by three sons, Terry Coats and wife Janet, of Fairmont; Larry Coats and Lanette, of Enid; Randy Coats of Hot Springs, AR; eight grandchildren, Katrina Coats of Claremore, OK; Lara Isaacs of Houston, TX; Kristina Brown of Enid; Kourtney Coats and wife Sarah, of Enid; Coby Coats and wife Erica, of Greenwood, AR; Lacy Coats of Hot Springs, AR; Kendra Schnebel and husband Jason, of Alva, OK; Ashley Coats of Enid; twelve great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Memorials may be made to Paradise Cemetery with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
