Vera Mae Christensen, 91, died on October 26, at the Capital Hospice in-patient facility in Arlington, Virginia. Vera Mae was born in Enid on May 13, 1919, the youngest of five children of Earl and Zetta Keffer. After graduating from Enid High School, she served as a telephone operator. She married Carl E. Christensen on August 31, 1940. They lived in Mississippi and California, while he served in the Army Air Corps. Carl and Vera were married 69 years. Vera was a homemaker for her husband, and two children. Later, she worked at Sears-Roebuck Co. in Enid, serving as the cashier and then as head of the catalog department. Vera was an active member of First Evangelical United Brethren Church, the founding church for Willow View United Methodist Church. At Willow View, she continued to serve the Sunday School and missionary circles. Since August, 2008, she had resided at Sunrise of Falls Church, an assisted living facility in Northern Virginia in order to be near her daughter and grandchildren. Her beloved husband, Carl, died in 2009. She is survived by two children, Terry and Jean, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be at Willow View United Methodist Church on Sunday, October 31, at 2 p.m.
