A Celebration of Life for Elwood Charles, age 84, of Enid, will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Robert Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Visitation is from 6:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, September 13th at the funeral home.
Elwood was born July 7, 1938 in Bristow, Oklahoma to Phillip and Viola (Mason) Charles, and passed away at home in Enid, on Tuesday, September 6, 2022.
Elwood loved fast cars and raced at many tracks around Wichita. He and his father Phillip owned and operated William and Son, as full-service gas station and auto repair shop in Wichita, Kansas for many years.
He is survived by his wife Darlene Charles, of the home in Enid; six children; daughter, Pamela Thompson, of Tulsa; son, Galen Charles and wife Keena, of Wichita, KS; son, Erik Charles, of Wichita, KS; daughter, Shaila Charles, of Chicago, IL; son, Frankie Moore-Charles and wife Shelley, of Garber, OK; and Wendell Moore-Charles and wife Tamelia, of Texas; thirteen grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Two brothers also survive Elwood; Ronnie Williams and wife Carolyn Williams, of Coffeyville, Kansas; Wesley Williams, of Wichita, KS and one aunt, Ernestine Snell, of Wichita, KS, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Elwood is preceded in death by his parents, Phillip Charles and Viola Williams; and brother, Joe Lewis Williams.
Memorial contributions in Elwood’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
