Ruby “Cong” Carter was taken by her Savior to her eternal home on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013. She was born on a farm southwest of Okeene, Okla. on Oct. 3, 1922 to Sarah Karbs Heffel and Carl Heffel. She married Albert Henry Carter on Jan. 3, 1941 in Perry, Okla. Ruby served the community of Waukomia, Okla. as Assistant Post Master for 30 years. She was lovingly called “Cong” by her grandchildren and soon took on that same name to most of her friends in Waukomis. In Feb. 1996, Ruby moved to Lubbock, Texas to be near her family. Ruby quickly made friends and joined the New Neighbors Club, and because Ruby loved cards she joined the Canasta and Pinochle Clubs.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Al; her parents; four brothers and a sister.
She is survived by a son, Jimmie D. Carter and wife Susie of St. Joseph, Mo; a daughter, Par Carter Camp and husband John, III of Lubbock, Tx.; step daughter, Betty Bagshaw of Canby, Oregon and Barbara Baker and husband Bill of Enid, Okla.; a brother, Cletice Heffel and wife June of Tucson, Arizona. She also leaves twelve grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; along with a host of friends.
Family and friends will gather for viewing from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013 at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30, 2013 in the Homestead Cemetery, Homestead, Okla.
Donations may be made to the Covenant Palliative Care Unit or Westmont Christian Church, Lubbock, Texas.
