A reception to celebrate and remember the life of Marian Lee Bullard will be held at 11:15, Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Burgundy Place in Enid.
Marian was born on January 3, 1941 in Amarillo, Texas to Helen Mae (Dyck) Cook and Kenneth Marian Cook, the fifth of six children. In 1945, Marian had polio; people were very scared, as they did not know if it was contagious. She overcame many hurdles with the support of family. She graduated Valedictorian of Vega High School in 1959 and received a Bachelor’s Degree from SMU in 1963. She continued her studies and earned a Master’s Degree in 1972 at West Texas State University.
Marian taught school for 34 years and retired in 1997. She married Walter C. Horsley in 1975 and gained two stepchildren. Walter died in 2012. After his death, she moved to Enid, Oklahoma where she met her second husband, John Bullard. They were married February 24, 2017. John and Marian resided at Burgundy Place in Enid, where they were a part of the “Burgundy Family.” Marian was an active member at Burgundy Place; she led hymn singing, participated in the exercise class and called Bingo games. She attended the First United Methodist Church in Enid and was a member of the Sooners Sunday school class.
Marian is preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Horsley; second husband John Bullard; parents, Kenneth and Helen Cook; two brothers, Melvin and Lanny Cook; and three sisters, Kathleen Tolbert, Norma Johnson, and Sharon Baynham.
