Funeral services for Erna Ruth Brunken age 97 of Garber who passed away on January 19, 2012 will be Monday, January 23, 2012 at 11:00 a.m at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Garber with Pastor Scott Ray officiating.. Burial will follow in the Garber Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3:00-5:00 pm at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Erna was born the 13th child of George and Minnie (Virgins) Reim on September 22, 1914. She was a graduate of Pond Creek High School in 1932. In 1932, Erna worked her first job at Tia Juana Caf. On July 20, 1938 she married Arnold Brunken at Garber Lutheran Church. She worked for various places, she was an aid at the old Independence Hospital under Dr. F.A. Hudson, canning factories in Fairmont, Minnesota, and H.A. Marr Grocery Wholesale Store in Enid. She danced to the music of Lawrence Welk before he was a famous band leader. She spent her entire life with the exception of the last year and half living on the farm. She loved to cook and bake and share her efforts and talents with others. In later years she loved to stitch on quilts with others. Her hands were always busy writing letters to family and friends. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for 75 years.
She is survived by two children, her daughter Sandra Williams of Enid, her son, Linwood Brunken and his wife Sue of Garber; 8 grandchildren, Deborah (David) Rapp of Ringwood, Bryan Williams of Enid, Randy (Deidra) Williams of Lenexa, KS, Karla (Dan) Koonce of Edmond, OK, LeAnn (Brooks) Nyce of Garber, Stephnee (Alan) Hiserodt of Norman, Brooke Brunken of Stillwater, and Clifford Brunken of Norman; seven great grandchildren, Dylan (Carol) Rapp of Stillwater, Michele (Andrew) Garver of Denver, CO, Kelsey Rapp of Oklahoma City, Jill Williams of Lewisville, Co, Tyler Williams of Boulder, CO, Taylor Rapp of Oklahoma City, Madeline and Daniel Koonce both of Edmond; one step granddaughter, Kacie Nyce of Ohio and 1 great great grandson, Franklin Garver of Denver, CO; a sister, Lydia Sparks of Garber and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials maybe given to Immanuel Lutheran Church with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.
