Lloyd Richard Brownsworth was born December 14, 1928 to Elmer Brownsworth and Esther (Geis) Brownsworth near Loyal, OK. He went home to be with the Lord, on February 23, 2012. He attended a country school in Loyal for part of his childhood and later upon moving to Okeene with his parents attended and graduated from there. Upon graduating high school, Lloyd attended Oklahoma State University where he graduated in 1950 with BS degree in agricultural sciences. In later years, he would attend the same university to obtain his Masters in Education as well as his Superintendent’s Certificate.
Lloyd began his teaching career in Vinson, OK where he taught vocational agriculture and met his wife, Sue Taylor and married her in 1952. At the time of his passing, Lloyd and Sue were married 59 years and 4 months.
After serving 2 years in the United States Army, Lloyd returned to the states and began work in Snyder, Oklahoma as the Vocational Agriculture teacher for approximately 19 years. In 1967, he and his family moved to Enid, OK were he served as the Assistant Superintendent and Counselor at the OT Autry Votech. Before his retirement in 1991, Lloyd had served as Superintendent for approximately 8 years.
After retiring, Lloyd traveled the world spreading the good news of Jesus Christ through the Gideons International. He traveled to 42 countries in this effort during 34 trips abroad to distribute Bibles and provide assistance to existing and new Gideons around the world. This work through the Gideons was truly and passion of his, as was his family. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Lloyd was survived by his wife, Sue (Taylor) Brownsworth, a brother, Willard Brownsworth of Okeene, OK, and a sister, Ann Weiderstien of Newton, KS. He is also survived by 2 sons, Ronnie Brownsworth of Atlanta, GA and Raymond Brownsworth of Sigourney, IA; 11 grandchildren, Christopher Brownsworth(Columbia, MO), Jonathan Brownsworth, Joshua Brownsworth, Nicholas Brownsworth, and Katy Brownsworth (all of Atlanta, GA) and Chris Brownsworth (Enid, OK), Victoria Brownsworth, Courtney Brownsworth, Sarah Brownsworth, Adam Hames and Luke Hames (all of Sigourney, IA); two great grandchildren, Brooke and Owen.
The funeral service will be held Monday, February 27, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Emmanuel Baptist Church. Rev Wade Burleson will officiate. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Family will receive friends Sunday, at the funeral home from 2-4 pm.
