Lawrence was born December 5, 1932 in Ames, Oklahoma to Orba Ivan and Thelma (Vance) Brittain, and passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024 at his home in Enid.
He attended Union Star Elementary School through the third grade, then moved to Ames, where he graduated with the class of 1950. In 1947, while still in school, he worked for Dale Wells. In 1953, he was drafted into the Army, serving first at Camp Carson, Colorado with the 537th Field Artillery Battalion, Hdq Co. Survey Crew, and in Korea with the 137th 10th Corps Field Artillery Battalion, 155 Howitzer Hdq. Co. survey crew. After being honorably discharged in 1955, he graduated OSU Tech with a degree in Map Drafting in December 1958; then moved to Dallas, TX to work for Lone Star Gas, eventually moving to Enid to work for JB Payne and Associates, and later CH Guernsey Engineering. He also served as a minister at the Followers of Christ Church in North Enid. He married Carol Oakley on March 28, 1959, and she proceeded him in death in 1999. From this union Larry Brittain and Lisa Brittain Vasquez were born. In 2000, he married Joyce Phipps Jantzen Guy.
He loved to sing; he had a beautiful voice. He also loved to travel, and spend time with his family. He was kind hearted, and didn’t have a mean bone in his body, and would do anything for you if he possibly could. His faith was very important to him, and his relationship with his Lord and Savior. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and papa. He will be missed by all who loved him.
He is survived by his wife Joyce, of the home in Enid; four children, son Larry Brittain and wife Kim, of Enid; daughter, Lisa Vasquez and husband Roger of St. Paul, Texas; Brenda Jordan and husband Kent, of Ringwood; Audrey Seal and husband Mark, of Ringwood; eight grandchildren, Pedro Vasquez, of St. Paul, TX; Tanner Seal, of Ringwood; Britni Skinner and husband Matt, of Blanchard, OK; Brent Uselton, of Enid; Barry Jordan, of Enid; Sidney Jantzen, of Enid; Derrick Jantzen and wife Caila, of Ames; and Haley Battelo, of Enid.
