Mrs. Brenda Kay Friesen, age 56, passed away Wednesday evening, March 19, 2025, at her residence in Enid, OK. She was born May 31, 1968, in Kingsburg, CA, to Viola Mae Truitt and the late Robert Maxwell Truitt. Brenda was preceded in death by her father, Robert Truitt; one brother: Robert Truitt; two unborn children; and two unborn grandchildren.
Brenda is survived by her husband of 33 years, Kevin Friesen; three children: Alison and Mateo Dickey, Thomas and Madelyn Friesen, and Katie and Ben Rebmann; grandchildren: Elliot, Collin, and Wesley; mother: Viola Truitt; two siblings: sister Susan and Isaac Myers, and brother Mike and Kim Truitt, and several other family members.
As a wife, Brenda was steadfast, consistent, gentle, patient, kind, loving, and fun. Her adorning was the "hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit which in God's sight is very precious" (1 Peter 3:4). That gentle and quiet spirit attracted Kevin from the start of their dating relationship all the way until she met her Savior. He also was attracted to her physical beauty (no doubt) and to her spunky spirit, which continually came out and made married life exceedingly enjoyable. She served faithfully with Kevin in youth ministry early in their marriage and was a great support to him in his design business. Brenda loved being married, and loved Kevin deeply and faithfully. "An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain.... a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised" (Proverbs 31:10-11, 30b). This was Brenda.
As a mother, Brenda poured herself into her family. Her desire to raise children started when she was a little girl and was the great passion of her life. She absolutely loved being a mom and keeping the home. After losing two unborn children to miscarriage, her joy in the birth of Alison, Thomas, and Katie was deep and abiding. Kevin often said that Brenda had a natural instinct of how to raise children and in making the wise parenting choice in the moment. "She [opened] her mouth with wisdom and the teaching of kindness [was always] on her tongue.... Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her" (Proverbs 31:26, 28). It is impossible to know who Brenda was as a person if you didn't know who she was as a wife and mother. She lived out the fruit of the Spirit daily. She loved her family deeply. She demonstrated her eternal position in Christ faithfully.
Brenda worked for a couple years as a paraprofessional for a student with special needs while she and Kevin lived in Kansas. She really enjoyed the one-on-one instruction. After moving to Enid, she obtained her Oklahoma teaching certificate and taught 3rd grade for six years in Enid Public Schools. She loved her students and worked to make her classroom a warm and inviting place to learn. Her last year teaching was very challenging as she was also receiving chemo treatments. She courageously persevered but she was not able to return to teaching due to her health.
Brenda enjoyed flower gardening, music, and embroidery. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed trying new dishes on the spot-many times not writing down the new "recipe" (to the consternation of Kevin). She often would crank up Francesca Battistelli or other music while doing things in the house, and would sing along as she worked. She had a beautiful singing voice and could harmonize with nearly any song. Her time singing with the praise and worship team in Topeka was enjoyable to her. She loved going on long road trips with the family, camping, and later visiting her grown children in Northwest Arkansas. She treasured family over hobbies and rejoiced in seeing her children grown, married, and pursuing God.
Brenda's great desire is that everyone reading this would understand that she knew without a doubt that Christ Jesus had saved her from her sin-that He had cleansed her and bought her by His finished work on the cross. And because He defeated death on her behalf, she is now secure in His presence forever. She can sing "Christ is Mine Forevermore." She would want you to ask yourself today, "Is this true of me?"
