Harlo "Dick" Breitenkamp

Funeral services for Harlo (Dick) Richard Breitenkamp, age 85, of Fairmont, will be 2:00 pm, Friday, April 19, 2024, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Fairmont, with Pastor Mark Blakeman officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the United States Navy will follow in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Fairmont. Dick’s granddaughter, Megan, will honor her grandfather by playing TAPS at the graveside committal service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory.

Dick was born September 21, 1938, in Enid, to Arnold and Ida (Sattelmeier) Breitenkamp, and passed away Friday, April 12, 2024, after a long battle with Parkinsons Disease. He attended Zion Lutheran Church grade school in Fairmont, and graduated from Garber High School. He later joined the US Navy, serving from 1958 to 1962, where he was part of the flight crew on the USS Boxer. He married Carol Wyssmann on August 31, 1962, and they have three daughters, Elizabeth, Catherine and Cheryl. They lived in Oklahoma City and Edmond before moving to Fairmont, where Dick and his father built their home. He worked as an aircraft electrician at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, and he also farmed. He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church. He was a fan of the Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team, and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Carol; daughters, Elizabeth Smith and husband Tim; Catherine Espinoza and husband Mark; seven grandchildren; Laura Smith, Eric Smith, Hanna Espinoza-Villansenor, Anthony Espinoza, Amanda Fuxa, Megan Moore, and Ryan Metcalf; one great-grandchild, and his brother, Gene Breitenkamp. Dick is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cheryl Metcalf; son-in-law Kevin Metcalf, and brother, Arlo Breitenkamp.

The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the caregivers at Greenbrier, and especially to those at The Arbors, who took such good care of their “Dickie.”

Memorial contributions in Dick’s name may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, or the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation Parkinsons Division, with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
