Derald Dean Brainard, age 79, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 1, 2011.
He was born during the Dustbowl and Depression on November 12, 1932 on the Brainard family farm northwest of Enid, Ok to Elmer Benjamin Brainard and Louise L Luckert. He was a lifelong member and leader of Trinity Lutheran Church northwest of Enid, OK, where he was baptized, confirmed, married and will be laid to rest.
He dedicated his life to farming and operating his Grade A dairy south of Carrier, OK, and lived his life two and a half miles from his birth place. During grade school he would milk cows and take care of chores each morning before attending grade school at Victor one room schoolhouse. He graduated from Carrier High School in 1951.
He married Jeanette Faye Rutz, who he had known since childhood on June 26, 1955. Their 56 year marriage was blessed with two children, Brenda Lou and Brad Lee.
He was drafted into the US Army in 1955. He was stationed at Camp Chaffee, Ft. Smith Arkansas and travelled overseas to actively serve his country during the Korean War.
He was a voting delegate of Dairy Farmers of American (DFA) for 45 years; he participated in numerous national meetings and programs of DFA, Dairy Herd Improvement Association, and American Farmers Union. He owned a registered Holstein Dairy Herd and sold breeding bulls nationwide.
Papa Dean, as he was known to his family, had a sense of humor, loved to hunt, fish, play cards & games and spend time with his beloved grandchildren Alex Brandon, Rachel Michelle, Drew Jacob, Troy Jacob, Ross Conrad, Claire Elizabeth, and Grace Elaine.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lee, Calvin and Harold and two sisters, Florence Frech and Evelyn Kellert.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette, of the home; daughter Brenda Dewald and husband Scott of Dover, son, Brad and wife Lisa of Enid; and 7 grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Ongoing Ambassadors for Christ youth ministry or other specified organizations through Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
