John Bolte

January 21, 1941 — April 19, 2010

John Roger Bolte was born on January 21, 1941, to Opal Olliver and Rosa Arabella (Meritt) Bolte at their home west of Medford, OK. He passed away at his home in Breckinridge, OK, to eternal life in heaven at the age of 69, on April 19, 2010.

John was baptized by Rev. R.W. Sharp on January 1, 1956, at the First Methodist Church in Jefferson, OK, and was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Caney, KS on April 6, 1975, by Rev. Carl Schuette. He was active in Trinity Lutheran Church in McAlester, OK, and was currently a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Breckinridge.

John graduated from Jefferson High School in 1959 as Salutatorian of his class. He served in the United States Army as Corporal from 1960-1963, and was in the Military Police and Color Guard. He attended Northern Oklahoma Junior College, Tonkawa, OK, from 1963-1965, and then Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK, from 1965-1970 where he received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and Master of Science through the Department of Entomology. He held Life Membership in the OSU Alumni Association.

He married Linda Marie Roggow on May 24, 1969, in Immanuel Lutheran Church of Breckinridge and celebrated almost 41 years of married life together making their homes in North Carolina, Kansas, and Oklahoma.

He began his working career in October, 1970, with Statistical Reporting Service, as a United States Department of Agriculture Statistician in Raleigh, NC. He was a partner in a stocker-feeder operation and raised corn in Caney, KS, from 1974-1977. He worked for the Oklahoma State Department of Agriculture a brief time before accepting the position of Southeast District Area Entomology Specialist with OSU Extension in 1978, headquartered in McAlester, and retired in 1995. After Retirement, he again worked for the OSDA as a Pesticide Field Inspector from 1995-2005.

John was farm boy at heart and enjoyed gardening, beekeeping, woodworking and furniture refinishing, OSU football and wrestling, and hunting.

He is survived by his wife, Linda, of the home; two sons: Brad and wife Adena of Mannford, OK, and Karl and wife Carey of Lenexa, KS; four grandchildren: Hailey, Asher, Micah, and Peyton; one sister, Stevana Gilbert, of Nevada, MO; one niece, Tama Hinton; two nephews, Tim and Roger Gilbert; Aunt Edna Meritt; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother and two brothers, Brook and Opal Gene, who died in a house fire in 1946, and his father, who died in 1979.

Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Perpetual Cemetery Fund with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home as custodian of the funds. Condolences may be emailed to the family at ladusauevans@suddenlinkmail.com.

The funeral service will be held, Saturday, April 24, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Breckinridge with Rev Arthur M McCormick officiating. Burial will be in the Breckinridge Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
