Roy Billings

A celebration of life service for Roy M. Billings, age 87, will be 10:00 am, Monday, April 6, 2015 at Central Christian Church, 1111 West Broadway, Enid, OK, 73703. Rev Don Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. United States Naval Honor Guard will provide military honors. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Roy passed away peacefully at Mantey Heights Rehabilitation and Care Center in Grand Junction, CO, on March 29, 2015.
Roy was born on August 15, 1927, in Enid, OK, to Ella and Dwight Billings. He graduated from Enid High School, and after graduation, enlisted into the Navy. After joining the Navy, Roy took a course in electrical engineering at Electrical Mate School in Gulfport, Mississippi. He was stationed in China and was in the service for 2 years, receiving his discharge in 1946. Returning home, he met the love of his life, Juanita (Nita) Billings. They were married on June 15, 1947. Roy and Nita had three daughters, Kathy, Dianne, and Susan. Roy worked with his father and brother Don at Billings Electric Company for many years, and then became Vice President of Davis Abstract.
While living in Enid, Roy was a member and long-time treasurer of the American Business Club and a member of Central Christian Church. He was active in the church and community, and was loved by all! Roy and Nita hosted pilots from all over the world training at Vance Air Force Base for many years, and remained in touch with many of them long after they left Enid.
In 2003, Roy and Nita moved to Grand Junction, Colorado. While in Grand Junction, Roy continued to help others serving as a citizen volunteer with the Grand Junction Police Department, where in 2009 he received the department’s “Volunteer of the Year Award.” He was also a member of Kairos, a prison ministry organization.
Above all, Roy enjoyed his family, grandchildren, and friends. He enjoyed laughing, teasing, playing cards with Nita, being involved in the church, and helping others. Roy always had a hug and a smile for everyone!
Roy is survived by his two daughters, Kate Nielsen and husband Rob, of Carlsbad, CA, and Sue Edson and husband Dennis, of Grand Junction, CO. He adored his 6 grandchildren, who brought him great love and joy; Jason Beechwood, of Seattle, WA; Lindsey Beechwood, of Ft. Collins, CO; Brittany Grice of Redondo Beach, CA; Nikki Winsett and husband Rob, of San Antonio, TX; Devon Adams of Carlsbad, CA; and Conner Adams of Asheville, NC.
Roy is preceded in death by his wife, Nita, and daughter, Dianne Billings Grice, his parents, and his brother Don.
