Stephen Bigheart

April 30, 1953 — October 12, 2015

A Celebration of Life Service for Stephen Lee Bigheart age 62 will be 2:00 pm Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the Ladusau-Evans Chapel with Dr. Richard Dunn officiating. Cremation and services are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Steve was born April 30, 1953 in Hays Kansas to Sonny and Mary Ellen Bigheart. He departed this earth after a courageous fight with cancer on October 12, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Steve graduated from Great Bend High School in 1971. He married his high school sweetheart, Debbie Eatherly on June 26, 1971. After spending several years in the oilfield, he became a nationally recognized juvenile detention officer, winning the Bob Rader Line Worker of the Year award. His passion for horses lead to a partnership with his sister, brother in law, and father; creating Bigheart Thoroughbreds, where he became a stakes winning horse trainer. Steve was instrumental in the breeding, foaling, and training of the horses, his knowledge and horsemanship was respected and loved by many. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Debbie. His children: Conrad and wife Jill Bigheart, Kasie and husband Jason Turk, Buck and wife Alisha Bigheart. His brother, Michael Bigheart and wife Terry, and his sister, Cindi Bigheart, and husband Richard Staerkel. Grandchildren: Ashlyn, Sadie, CJ, Ryen, Trajan, Brayden, Taylor, Savannah, Gracie and Jersey. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, his devoted dog Jackson, and countless friends. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Sonny and mother, Mary Ellen.

Memorials may be made in honor of Steve, to Dexeus Oncology to help other cancer patients in need.
