Robert (Bob) Lee Barnes was born in Enid on March 30, 1930 to W. J. Barnes, Sr. and Anna Lave Furhmaster Barnes. He departed this life on Friday, June 11, 2010 after a 14 year battle with cancer.
In 1947, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Mary Louise Poteet in Perry, Oklahoma. They were partners and best friends for 62 precious years. Bob worked for Champlin Oil Company for 21 years and in 1970 he began his life-long adventure as a Sonic Industries Investor. He was successful fry cook (burger flipper) and passed that skill on to his children and his grandchildren.
One of Bob’s favorite pastimes was playing golf with his buddies; he didn’t care where he was playing as long as he got to keep score. He also loved to go boating and fishing with Mary and the grandkids.
Bob was a member of the Elk’s Lodge, the Moose Lodge and the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Enid where he was a Eucharistic Minister and an usher. Bob loved to help others and often volunteered for Our Daily Bread ministries and helped St. Gregory’s Catholic Church with their grocery mission. Bob never met a stranger. He was an awesome husband, dad, grandpa (Papa), son, uncle, cousin, brother and friend and will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his baby daughter, Judy Kay, his parents, and his brother W.J. Barnes, Jr.
