Duane S. Anderson, 82, of Enid OK, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Nov 22, 2015, surrounded by his loving family at St. Mary’s Regional Hospital following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, Enid, OK at 2pm on Friday, Nov 27, officiated by Pastor Dan Thimell. Visitors may pay respects at Ladusau-Evans funeral home on Wednesday, Nov 25 from 8am-9pm, and with the family at 1:30pm at church prior to Friday’s service.
Duane was born on December 6, 1932 in Winnebago County, Iowa. He was fourth of eleven children, born to Ober and Myrtle Anderson. He graduated from high school in Thompson, Iowa and entered the army in 1953, serving with the 17th Infantry Division in Korea. Following his service, he attended Luther College, Decorah, Iowa and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in January 1959. Duane accepted a position with Western Adjustment Company in Carroll, Iowa where he met and married Donna Rabb on September 11, 1960. In 1963, he began working for Farmers Elevator Mutual Insurance Company, and later transferred to Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was promoted to Regional Claims Manager and transferred to Enid in 1971, retiring in 1997. All through his life, his deep faith in God and patriotic love for his country never wavered. Duane was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather; he enjoyed reading, woodworking, and camping. He and Donna also loved to travel, having visited every state in the U.S. Other adventures included trips to Europe, the Carribean and Norway, where they reunited with Duane’s relatives.
Duane is survived by his wife, Donna Anderson, Enid; children, Renae (Chuck) Cureton, Atlanta, Georgia, Rhonda (Randy) Galer, Avon, Colorado, Michael (Tressa) Anderson, St. Louis, Illinois; grandchildren, Kyle and Chelsea Cureton, Kathryn and Anna Galer, Cody, Katrina and Brent Anderson; brothers and sisters Norma Thompson, Lake Mills, Iowa, Ober Jay (Iolene) Anderson, Ankeny, Iowa, Leona Lacroix, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Marlene (Ray) McLaurin, Vicksburg, Mississippi, Lynn (Marybeth) Anderson, Nathrop, Colorado, and Gary (Becky) Anderson, Colleyville, Texas. He is also survived by brother-in-law Richard (Phyllis) Rabb, of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, sister-in-law Margaret Anderson, Austin, Minnesota and many nieces and nephews. Duane was preceded in death by an infant brother, Duane E., his parents; sister Elois Qualley, and brothers Orvis and Donavon Anderson.
Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church of Enid, or to the charity of choice. Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home will serve as custodian of the funds.
