Graveside Services for Gene “Mr. Lotta Burger” Akers age 87 of Enid will be 11 am Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at the Mausoleum Chapel at Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Gary Unbehauen officiating. Cremation and services are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Gene was born February 27, 1929 in Sand Springs, OK to Joe and Wilma Estess Akers and passed away Friday December 9, 2016 at his home. Gene was raised in Bartlesville, OK. He joined the U. S. Army in 1950 serving in Korea and retired on July 31, 1956. He married Francis Jennings. Gene moved to Enid in 1964 and took over Lotta Burger. In 1983, he married Irene Hume and she passed away July 27, 2007. He sold Lotta Burger to his son Gene in 2005. Gene was an active member of the Masonic Lodge and was known as “Salty” the Shriner clown. He married Jean Bryant on July 12, 2011 in Jet, OK.
Gene is survived by his wife Jean of the home, sons Gene Akers and wife Kim of Enid and their daughter Aly Akers, Joe Akers of Mounds, OK, Timmy Akers and wife Karen of Mounds, OK, grandchildren; Chanda, Zach, Tonya, Gipsey, and Chad, 9 great grandchildren, and 18 great-great grandchildren, step children Rodger Bryant and Cindy Bryant, brother Jack Akers of Kaw City, OK and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Joe, Jimmy, and John Dean Akers, and sister June Waller.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Circle of Love or Shriners Children Hospital with Ladusau-Evans serving as custodian of the funds.
