Obituary for Jimmy David Overton Sr.

Funeral services for Jimmy Overton, Sr will be 10:00am, Friday, March 17, 2023 at Garland Road Baptist Church with Pastor Billy Benson officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6pm-7pm. Services are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory.

JD was born December 8, 1951 in Malvern, Arkansas to Bobby and Edna (Tankersley) Overton and passed away March 13, 2023. He graduated from Malvern High School class of 1969. JD enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served for 21 years. He was stationed at England Air Force Base in Louisiana, Dyess Air Force Base in Texas, Stondestrom Air Force Base in Greenland, Howard Air Force Base in Panama, and retired at Vance Air Force Base with the rank of Master Sergeant. While serving his country, JD was active in the Top Three Club and Air Force Sergeant’s Association. In 1974, he married Vicky McCann and to that union was born Jimmy David Overton, Jr and Lacy Marie Overton. JD married the love of his life Cynthia Alvarez on March 18, 1990 in Enid. JD adopted Corinne in 1993. After retiring from the Air Force he worked for General Novelties as District Manager for 13 Dollar World Stores for 5 years. He started working for the District Attorney’s Office as Victim Witness Coordinator in 1996, and retired in December 2018. He served on the Child Abuse Response Team and with the YWCA Crisis Abuse Center. JD coordinated the annual Garfield County Crime Victims Candlelight Vigil. JD was a devoted member of Garland Road Baptist Church and served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Director.

JD is survived by his wife, Cynthia Overton; daughter, Lacy Snell and husband Garrit; daughter, Corinne Overton; son, Jimmy Overton, Jr.; grandchild, Easton Snell; Step Mother, Sue Overton; siblings, Tom Overton, Kristy Efird and husband Scott, Todd Overton and wife Cheryl; and a host of nieces, nephews, and loving friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; step father, Mitchell Raymond Scott and sister, Juanita Overton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Garland Road Baptist Church with Ladusau-Evans serving as custodian of the funds.
