Obituary for Max Arthur Johnson
A Celebration of Life Service for Max Arthur Johnson age 89 of Enid will be 10:00 am Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Central Christian Church with Rev. Susan Payne officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory.
Max was born July 18, 1933 in Dodge City, KS to George Phillip Johnson and Ruth Lucille Rees and passed away January 5, 2023 in St. Mary’s Hospital. He attended and graduated from Council Grove High School 1951. He was an Allstate offensive guard in high school. Max attended his 70th class reunion in 2021. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1955 with a Business Degree. Max entered the Army National Guard in 1950 and was honorably discharged in 1959 as a Sergeant. Max married the love of his life Mary Lee Carr on September 19, 1958 in Council Grove, KS and she passed away June 10, 2021. He was truly an avid K-State Wildcat fan and enjoyed going to many football games with his family.
Max worked as an office manager for Farmland Industry and came to Enid in 1973 retiring after 27 years. He was a member Kiwanis Club and a member of the Lifelong Learning. Max served on Enid City Council for 4 years. He was instrumental in Phillips University Foundation. Max was a member of Central Christian Church since 1973, serving in the Choir and other capacities. Max enjoyed being involved in his grandchildren’s activities going to many concerts and games to cheer them on and be their biggest fan.
Max is survived by his children; Debra Travers and husband Glen of Garden City, KS, James Johnson and wife Mary Helen of Boerne, TX, and Randy Johnson and wife Jane of Enid; grandchildren Cody Atkinson, Jennifer Mata, Matthew Johnson, Arianna Johnson, Mark Johnson, Arthur Johnson, Michael Johnson, Amanda Johnson, Sarah Johnson and Anamaria Johnson; great grandchildren Dominic Mata, Isabelle Mata, Max Mata, Gracie Atkinson, Dani Boelte, Oakley Boelte, Charlotte Johnson, Marek Johnson, and Maxine Johnson; sisters-in-law Barbara Johnson and Betty Cook, and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Byron Johnson and sister Phyllis Pena.
Memorials may be made to Central Christian Church Choir with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory serving as custodians of the funds.
