A Private Graveside service for Eunice D. “ Barney” Barnes age 91 of Enid will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
Barney was born April 3, 1929 in Enid, Ok to Jack and Catherine (Hart) Hays and passed away peacefully at home on February 14, 2021 surrounded by her family. Eunice was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Harold Hays and her loving husband Buster Dean Barnes (1925-1991) whom she married on April 3, 1946, son-in-law, Harry J. Congdon.
Barney, as she was known by many, was the consummate Enid booster and lived here her entire life; 70 of those years in the house she and Buster bought to raise their three daughters. Known for her independent and sparkling personality, Barney spent many years as a successful salesperson for J. C. Penney, Coldiron’s and C.R. Anthony. After retiring, she utilized her experience and upbeat, positive personality volunteering for more than 20 years at St. Mary’s Hospital and then at Loaves & Fishes. Barney was also a proud member of Delta Theta Chi Sorority, Oklahoma Delta Chapter for over 50 years.
Eunice is survived by her daughters; Nancy Phillips and husband Butch of Enid, Cynthia and husband Mark Douglas of Kingwood, TX, Kathy Congdon of Enid, her loving grandchildren, Mindy Smith, Katie McCoy, Nicole Vallee, Jason Congdon and Jamie Hromas, and several great grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren, her sister Ruth Bradley of Dayton, Ohio.
Memorials may be made to Backpack for Kids with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.

Nancy, Cynthia and Kathy I just saw where Barney passed away on the 14th. I am so very sorry for your loss. Barney was so very sweet to me whenever I worked for Coldirons in 1973-74, which was my Senior year at EHS. I was in DECA which was where I went to school in the morning and worked in the afternoon and Saturdays with Barney. I was nominated for Queen of DECA and your Mother knew I wanted it so very much. When I won she put a note on my time card which said Congratulations Queen Traci. Then she, Stuart Long and Terry Jones bought me a bouquet of yellow roses. I still have that note even today as it is in my album of memories and pictures of my Senior year. The first day I was to start at Coldirons I was coming out of Sears getting ready to cross Randolph to go down the alley to the store when I was hit by a car. I was taken to the hospital and had to spend the night because of possible hip damage. When she found out she came right up to the hospital to see me and told me this was a first for her. Meaning she had never hired someone where on their first day they walk out in front of a car and end up in the hospital instead of showing up for work. I guess I made an impression on her. I find it interesting that both she and Stuart Long died within days of one another. I am sure the retail business will be booming with the both of them in heaven. Know I am praying for each one of you and your family.
