Rickey West was born on September 6, 1953 to Juanita Smith and O’neal Smith, in Enid, Oklahoma. At an early age, Rickey was adopted by his stepfather Willie West. Rickey accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of St. Stephen AMC Church. Rickey is preceded in death by his parents and Juanita Douglas; O’neal Smith and Willie West; his siblings, Darlene Martinez, Robert Vaugh, Darryl Smith, and Almar Jarrah. He was a graduate of Enid High in 1971 and upon completion of high school, he enlisted in the US Army in 1973. He served as a sharp shooter for the Army. After retiring from the Army, Rickey accepted a job with The City of Enid as a heavy equipment operator, a job he enjoyed for 38 years. Rickey enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, fixing on cars; and most of all he loved spending time with his family, and the grandkids were his life. Rickey met and married the love of his life, Theresa Lovelace on November 14, 1987. With this marriage, Theresa embraced Rickey’s three children, Day-Mon Buford, Joe Buford, and Jonnita Buford-Deveroux. On November 3, 2020, God called Rickey from labor to reward. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 33 years, (11/14); his children, (whom they called Pops) Day-Mon (Crystal) Buford, of Luther, OK; Joe (Wynea) Buford, of Fairfax, VT; and Jonnita (Hurts) Deveroux, of Oklahoma City, OK; and his siblings, Linda (Henry) Sullivan, of Enid, OK; Sis-n-Love Aldene Vaughn of Tulsa; Mary MacKnight of Oklahoma City, OK; Oneal (Janie) Smith; Pat (Ruth) Smith of Stillwater, OK; Marlene Garret, and Elvira Haley, both of Perkins, OK.
