Obituary for James W. Whitman

A Celebration of Life for James “Pa” Whitman, age 88, of Enid, will be 10:00 am, Saturday, October 3, 2020 at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Edmison officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Pa was born October 4, 1931 in Saltillo, Mississippi to George and Balmer Lee (White) Whitman, and passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2020 in Enid.
He grew up in and around Tupelo and Coffeyville, Mississippi. He moved to Enid, Oklahoma in 1953. He married the love of his life, LaNell Evans in 1965, and they were married 53 years. They spent many weekends in their motor home traveling to Canton and Keystone Lakes. He loved to fish, hunt, and four-wheel at Salt Fork River with his grandsons; he was a mechanic; construction worker; oil field and handy-man. There was nothing Pa couldn’t do. He loved spending time with his family and attending the various sporting events and rodeo his grandchildren were involved in. Pa had a joke or a story to tell for every situation, and he would say, “oh that reminds me of a joke”.
Pa is preceded in death by his parents; his wife LaNell; son, James Alfred; step-son, Bobby Dalton; six brothers and five sisters. He is survived by two daughters, Denese Amsler and husband Jerry, of Enid; Pat Jackson and husband Richard, of Enid; three sons, Jimmy Whitman and wife Vickie, of Bossier City, LA; Lloyd Dalton and wife Polly, of Milton, Fl; Eugene Dalton of Las Vegas, NV; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions in Pa’s name may be made to Golden Oaks Retirement Village with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
