Obituary for Page Henry Belcher Jr.

Page Henry Belcher Jr.
Page Henry Belcher, Jr. died on May 5, 2017, at the age of 92. Page was born in Enid on November 25, 1924 to Page Henry Belcher, Sr. and Gladys Collins Belcher. Aside from his time in the Army and at OU, Page lived his entire life in Enid. Page's grandfather, George Belcher, rode his pony to stake a claim near Medford in the Cherokee Strip Land Run of 1893. Page was loyal to his city, his state and his country. He took great pride in being an Oklahoman. Page attended Woodrow Wilson Elementary, Garfield Elementary, Longfellow Junior High and graduated from Enid High School in the Class of 1942. Page served in the U.S. Army for three years beginning in 1943 where he was in the military police and also taught remedial academic classes for enlisted men. Page received a Juris Doctor from the University of Oklahoma School of Law in 1949 and joined his father's law practice. Page and his brother-in-law Clyde Collins continued as law partners after Page Sr. left the firm to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives. Page practiced law in Enid for over sixty years. Like most young boys of his era, Page began working when he was only 8 or 9 years old. He had newspaper routes for years and also worked at Sanford Stunkle Drug Stores as a car hop (pay was 5 cents an hour) and later as a soda jerk. He loved reading history and participated in debate, public speaking and school plays in junior high and high school. His mother was concerned that he was spending too much time playing cards at the Wheat Shock pool hall downtown and his father was often dispatched to bring him home. Page married Marilyn Cooper Walsh in 1953. Marilyn was a widow with two small children at the time. Page formally adopted Terry and Janice and they soon added Susan, Page III and Philip to the family. Page loved to play golf, enjoyed a good card game and liked to travel. He encouraged a love of reading in his children who knew that if you asked to buy a book, the answer was always "yes." For many years, the family spent several weeks each summer camping throughout the U.S. Each trip was an exciting adventure filled with narrow mountain roads, stories by the campfire, wandering bears and car breakdowns. When the children were grown and gone, Page and Marilyn took many interesting trips all over the world. Page was very civic minded and served as President of the following organizations: Enid School Board, Campfire Girls, Methodist Men' Club, YMCA, Enid Speech and Hearing and the Garfield County Bar Association. He served on the board of the Bank of Kremlin for many years. Page was predeceased by his parents, his sister Carol and brother-in-law Clyde Collins, son-in-law Frank Geier and he lost the love of his life, Marilyn, in 2010 after 57 years of marriage. He is survived by five children: Terry Belcher of Enid; Janice Geier of San Francisco, CA; Susan Asbell and husband, Steve of Tacoma, WA; Philip Belcher and wife, Kendell of Edmond; Page Belcher III and wife, Ina of Tahlequah. Nine grandchildren: Tom and Jack Geier, Laura, Elizabeth and Caroline Asbell, Katie Wolff, Grant Belcher, Lindsey and Hanna Belcher. He is also survived by great grandson Alan Geier.
Donations may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation - Alzheimer's Division in remembrance of Page's wife Marilyn with Ladusau-Evans serving as custodians of the funds.
A Celebration of Life service for Page H. Belcher, Jr will be 2:00 pm Wednesday at the Ladusau-Evans Chapel with Rev. Jim Edmison officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Condolences may be made online and the service may be viewed online at www.ladusauevans.com
