Condolence From: Steve Smith
Condolence: Chauncey, to me, Dave, Lani, Bob and many others, your folks were surrogates. The stepped in and stepped up, always. They were the most loving and welcoming couple. Their door was always open and more often than not, they had a handful of us in the house. RL never got too tired, Inez always greeted us with a hug. They worked hard and played hard and taught us, through their own actions, how to be loving and patient parents. Your house was the center of the universe for us growing up and your folks let it all unfold day after day, night after night, for years. So many of the memories we reflect on today took place in your home more than any other. Without their genuine love for all of us, providing that center of the universe we all made our 2nd home, we would have been like every other group of grade school best friends, that moved on, lost touch and found other friends. Nobody has ever or will ever step into this circle. We all recognize the uniqueness of our friendship, that is still as strong today as it ever was. There can be no doubt that your beautiful mom and dad and their home they opened to us every day for years, played no small part in that. I can thank God every night for you and the guys, but tonight I thank God for your mom and dad. Without them, we wouldn't have each other to be thankful for. They are together again now and smiling at us and are so very proud of you and the dad you've become to your kids. RL most definitely is smiling when he sees himself in you and he left this world with no regrets and a legacy that shines bright through you. Love you brother....Steve
