Obituary for Olin Ray Unruh

Olin Ray Unruh, 80, passed away peacefully with his children at his side early morning, January 1, 2014
Olin was born May 23, 1933 in Goltry, OK to Raymond and Ada Buller Unruh. He grew up on the family farm in Meno and was united in marriage to Roberta Ratzlaff on September 14, 1952. Roberta preceded him in death August 11, 2005. Olin was a veteran of the United States Air Force and began his working career as an advertisement salesman for the Enid News and Eagle in 1951. He continued in sales of various kinds (feed, water softeners, and cars) until 1974 when he went to work for First National Bank and Trust company of Enid, and continued in the banking industry until 1990. He also acted as a Night Reserve Deputy from 1980 to 1990 in his efforts to further serve the citizen of the county. But far and away his favorite profession was the 12 years spent as the District 3 Garfield County Commissioner, serving the community he loved. He retired in 2002.
Olin was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Enid since 1974 and enjoyed driving the train at Meadowlake Park. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church since 1966. He served on numerous boards, committees and commissions through the years, to include: Metropolitan Area Planning Commission, Youth and Family Services, Northern Oklahoma Development Association, RSVP, Enid Board of Education, Education Committee for the Association of County Commissioners, Legislative Committee of the Association of County Commissioners and County Commissioner Chairmen form the NW District of County Commissioners of Oklahoma.
Survivors include two sons, Troy of Capron, OK, David (and his wife Kate) of Colorado Springs, CO, a daughter, Nancy Unruh of Enid, two grandchildren, Jeremy and William, two sisters, Verneta Carver and Jalene Patton and her husband Richard, both of Enid, his brother Rex of Edmond and his wife Patricia, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 6, 2013, 2:00 pm at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Wade Burleson officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery are under the direction of the Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Kiwanis Club of Enid or Emmanuel Baptist Church with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of fund.
