Obituary for Bill D Quigley

Bill D. Quigley, 85, of 2818 Haystack Lane in Enid died peacefully in his sleep on November22, 2011. Bill survived four bouts of cancer, but lost his battle with the last reoccurrence.

He was born November 23, 1925in Indianola, Nebraska and joined the Army Air Force directly out of High School. Bill received an honorable discharge after the war ended. He met his future bride, Inez Laurell McIntosh, at a USO dance while stationed at Vance Air Force Base. Bill and Laurell married in Wellington, KansasonFebruary9, 1946, and returned to Enid to make their home. They lived and worked in Enid during their 65 years of marriage.

Bill worked for 19 years at Owens Supply Company before creating his own business, Plastics Unlimited in 1964. As his business grew over a period of 30 years, he eventually hired five employees and occupied several store locations, the last at 323 N. Independence. He retired at age 70 in 1994 and sold his business.

Bill supported the Enid community through a number of civic and business activities. He supported the Amtrykes project as a member and former officer of Noon AMBUCS. He supported Vance Air Force Base as a member and former officer of the local Air Force Association. Bill was a member of the Enid Chamber of Commerce, he was on the board of the Hedges Regional Speech and Hearing Center, and he served as president of Heritage Hills Association.

Following his retirement, Bill kept busy with numerous volunteer activities. The American Red Cross and Enid Lights Up the Plains both named him their 1999 Volunteer of the Year. He was a volunteer messenger at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center and reading tutor at McKinley Elementary School. Bill used his carpentry skills to work with visiting students in the wood shop at Leonardo’s Discovery Warehouse, during construction of Adventure Quest, for local Habitat houses, and for Christmas in April home projects.

Bill was a long time member of Enid First United Methodist Church, where he belonged to the choir and Sooner Sunday School. He was a member of the Board of Trustees, and for many years served as

voluntary groundskeeper of the gardens surrounding the church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Cora Quigley, and three sisters, Irene Ray, Eleanor Quigley, and Florence Howard. He is survived by his wife, Laurell; children, Tammy Trummer and Scott Quigley; daughter-in-law, Kathy Quigley; grandchildren, Ian Quigley and his wife Qing Qing; Kristine McNaughton and her husband Robbie; and two great-grandchildren, Keeli and Nicolas McNaughton; nieces Dixie Wachholtz and Karen Denison, and nephew Jim Howard and their families.

The family requests that memorial donations be designated to the Garfield County Chapter of the American Red Cross or to the American Cancer Society. The funeral will be held Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Enid First United Methodist Church, 401 W. Randolph under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
