Obituary for Treava A Ashworth

This earthly world was blessed with the life of Treava Arlene Garrison-Ashworth on December 22, 1943. She was born to Delta Garrison in Licking, Missouri. Treava was received with many open arms into her heavenly reward on June 10, 2012.

Services will be 7:00 pm, Wednesday, June 13, 2012 under the direction of Ladusau Evans Funeral Home, Enid. Interment will be 2:00 pm Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery, Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma. A

Treava’s mother, Delta, married Glen Stayton, who would raise her as his own. Much of her childhood was spent in or near the Licking and Sarcoxie, Missouri area. Treava would often spend time with her beloved Aunt Lenna (Garrison) Smith and her family, husband Ray and two sons, Rick and Michael. Lenna truly was as much a mother to Treava as an aunt could be.

The oldest of six children, Treava had to leave school behind to help raise her five younger siblings and care for the household during their mother’s illness and following her death. Her siblings looked up to Treava for love, guidance, trust and comfort throughout her life. Each of her siblings speak without hesitation of the loving mother-figure Treava has been to them for most of their lives.

In 1961, at the age of 18, Treava married William B. Briggs. From this union, she was blessed with three children: James Glenn, 1963; William Barker, 1964; and Pamela Lynne, 1965. When her marriage ended, Treava worked hard to support herself and three children. It wasn’t long before she was blessed with two more children Raymond Edward in 1966 and Linda Louise, 1968.

Treava was a devoted mother to her five children. No matter the circumstances, she always made sure her children’s needs were met. Family was of utmost importance to her and she passed this value down as a cherished heirloom to each of her siblings and children. She had made a promise to herself that the lives she was responsible for influencing would be taught love, kindness and the Gospel of Jesus. Treava often held multiple jobs to support herself and the children.

While working as a waitress, she met Bill J. Ashworth, the one true love of her life, whom she would marry on April 17, 1970. Bill took on all five children without hesitation and raised them as his own. They moved to western Oklahoma to (in Treava’s words) “get to the country and raise these kids right.” At one time, Bill and Treava had 9 children in the home as Bill’s children from a previous marriage came to live with them for a while. They lived in Greeley, KS; Keys, OK; Gage, OK and Shattuck, OK during the 1970’s as the family would move to follow the job.

When the family moved to the Nash area in 1975, Bill began working for LeForce Farms and Treava decided it was time to go back to school. She completed her GED, as much for her kids as herself. She vowed that her children would not be able to look at her and say, “Well, you quit school, so can I.”

Treava began Nursing school at NOC Tonkawa in 1978 and completed her nursing degree in 1980. She worked as D.O.N. of Wakita’s Community Health Center for a time. Her times with fellow students were fun and precious to her. She also worked at both St. Mary’s and Bass hospitals at different times. Many have told how wonderful and fun she was to work with. Treava also provided private duty nursing for several individuals through the years.

Bill and Treava retired in 1986 to Stilwell, Oklahoma, where they lived until Bill had a stroke in 1988. At that time, they moved to Eufaula, Oklahoma so Treava could assist with caretaking responsibilities for Bill’s Aunt who was aged and needed help.

During their time living near Lake Eufaula, Treava became a licensed real estate agent and worked for Carian Davis Real Estate in Eufaula. She enjoyed the challenge of lake real estate sales and gave it up only to care for Bill and Pam more as their physical well-being needed her more than real estate. She also became very involved in TOPS (Take off Pounds Sensibly) for several years in Eufaula and was an Area Captain for the eastern part of Oklahoma at one time. Treava was also active in the DAVA in Longtown, OK. with Bill being an Ex-Pow, Korea, he became a veteran’s service officer and assisted many soldiers obtain their VA benefits.

Awaiting her arrival in heaven are her husband, Bill Ashworth; one daughter, Pamela Lynne Briggs; one sister, Rita Mae Stayton; two grandchildren, Amber Dawn Briggs and Stephanie Elizabeth Nelson; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and other loved ones.

Those left upon this earth to honor her life include: Four children, James Briggs of Enid; Billy Briggs, wife Beth of Enid; Eddie Briggs, wife Kim of Iowa; Linda Briggs, fiancé Randy Revell of Waukomis; Grandchildren and great grandchildren: Jamie Briggs, fiancé Jay Elson of Nash, with children, Chayce, Tucker, Rylee, and Jaylea; Jay Briggs, fiancé Mika Johnson, of Millen, Georgia with children, Haley, Jacob, and Ausalynn; Mitchell Foote, Enid; Dakota Briggs of Holdenville, OK; Jacob Briggs, Enid; Chelsey Loomis, husband Derrick; Daylon Briggs, wife Alisha with child, Landon; Bethany Bules, husband Jason, children Bailey, Blaine and Buck; and Sabrina Briggs, all of Enid; Kaylee and Emilee Briggs, of Iowa; Lane Briggs, Waukomis; Siblings: Ed Stayton, wife Pam, Joplin, Missouri; Nina Wells, husband Gayle, Grove, OK; Wilma Chester, husband Bill; Linda Carnes, husband Ronnie; Rhonda Jordan, husband Russell all of Joplin, Missouri. Her beloved Aunt Lenna Smith and husband Ray and son Michael, Cassville, MO. Also are many more cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and other family members.

Treava was a born-again, Bible reading, Jesus loving, hymn singing, Christ following, Holy Spirit directed Christian and was truly responsible for many lives being added to the Eternal Book of Life. We know this, as many have shared their testimony with us. She loved to read, sing, and have fun. That might mean jumping on hotel beds, pulling good clean pranks on loved ones, and sharing love and laughter with everyone. She will be missed by too many to list.
